Filipinos in Geneva Gather to Commemorate Rizal’s Heroism
The Philippine Permanent Mission and Filipino community leaders and members in Geneva, led by Permanent Representative Carlos D. Sorreta, commemorated the 127th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal
GENEVA 02 January 2024 – Leaders and members of the Filipino community in Geneva gathered together to commemorate the 127th anniversary of the martyrdom of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal, during a solemn ceremony and year-end gathering organized by the Permanent Mission of the Philippines.
Ambassador Carlos D. Sorreta led the Permanent Mission and the Filipino community in singing the national anthem and offering flowers to Dr. Jose Rizal. "Today, we are reminded of Dr. Jose Rizal’s heroism and martyrdom amidst pressing global challenges, including conflicts and natural disasters," Ambassador Sorreta remarked.
"Dr. Jose Rizal, whose love of country paved the way for our independence, should serve as an inspiration for all of us," Ambassador Sorreta stated. "Indeed, Dr. Rizal is a true Global Filipino who left a lasting legacy of humanity and bravery for Filipinos and the international community."
The Permanent Mission commemorated Rizal Day under this year’s theme “Rizal: Pundasyon ng Kahapon, Isinasabuhay Ngayon" (Rizal: Foundation of the Past, Living Today). END
