PH Consulate General in Calgary, Knights of Rizal Commemorate Rizal Day at Rizal Monument in Airdrie, Alberta

CALGARY 07 January 2025 – The Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, commemorated the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal on 30 December 2024 at the Dr. Rizal monument at Nose Creek Regional Park, Airdrie, Alberta Canada.

The short program began with a wreath laying ceremony attended by MP Blake Richards of Banff-Airdrie, Airdrie Deputy Mayor Heather Spearman, members of the Knights of Rizal chapters in Airdrie and Calgary, and leaders of the various Filipino organizations in Airdrie & Calgary. MP Richards, Deputy Mayor Spearman, and members of the Filipino community delivered messages to mark the occasion.

Extolling the virtues of Dr. Rizal in his remarks, Deputy Consul General Victorio Dimagiba, Jr. emphasized that the legacy of Dr. Rizal is kept alive through the Filipino Community’s dedication to fostering unity, preserving Filipino traditions, and inspiring the next generation to embody his values of patriotism and selfless service.

The monument, a joint project of the Philippine Consulate General in Calgary, the Filipino Airdrie Association, the City of Airdrie, and the Rizal Monument Project Team, was inaugurated in October 2021. It is the first Rizal monument in Western Canada inscribed by the National Historical Commission of the Philippines. END
