PH Embassy in Athens Commemorates 128th Anniversary of the Martyrdom of Jose Rizal
ATHENS 20 January 2025 – Philippine Ambassador Giovanni E. Palec led the flag-raising ceremony at the Embassy grounds, commemorating the 128th anniversary of the martyrdom of Dr. Jose Rizal, with the theme “Rizal sa Bagong Pilipinas: Buhay at Aral, aming Nilalandas” (Rizal in the New Philippines: Life and Teachings, as our Guide).
The message for this year’s commemoration is not only to celebrate the life and sacrifices of Dr. Jose Rizal for the country’s freedom but also a reflection of the enduring relevance of his teachings in shaping a new and better Philippines. Dr. Rizal's commitment to education, justice, and social reform continues to inspire the Filipino people in navigating the challenges of our time where the values he espoused: love for our country, respect for human dignity, and the pursuit of knowledge would help guide the Filipinos in building a nation where every Filipino can thrive.
