PHL Embassy in Dili Joins International Women’s Day Commemoration

12 March 2018 DILI – The Philippine Embassy in Dili, Timor-Leste joined other foreign embassies and the Timorese Ministry of Foreign Affairs in commemorating the International Women’s on March 08 at the Ministry’s chancery building grounds.

The organizers invited the members of the diplomatic corps, the Timorese Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation and local women entrepreneurs in setting up booths and displays featuring typical and food and beverage products from the participating countries, which were shared for free to the on-lookers.

Complementing the festive bazaar atmosphere was a musical and dance program participated in by the Timorese hosts and the foreign embassies.

The program commenced at 6:00 p.m. when Timorese Vice-Minister of Education, Mrs. Lourdes Bessa, delivered the opening remarks. Also gracing event were local women dignitaries in the person of Guest of Honor and Presidential Spouse Madam Cidalia Mouzinho Nobre Guterres, and Secretary of State of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Mrs. Laura Menezes Lopes.

The Philippines was represented in the cultural program by Ms. Mirzi Venus D. Corpuz, daughter of one of the Embassy’s diplomatic staff, who delivered a stirring rendition of the Filipino song “Tagumpay nating Lahat,” which originally popularized by famous Filipina artist Leah Salonga.

The event was attended by the members of the diplomatic corps, officials from various Timorese line agencies, members of the expatriate community in Dili, and local residents. END
