13 March 2018 SAN FRANCISCO – The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco commemorated the International Women’s Day on March 08 by holding a special flag ceremony and offering rose to Embassy’s women officials held at the Philippine Center Lobby.

Deputy Consul General Raquel R. Solano, in her remarks following the ceremony, stressed that “all services, establishments, schools, practitioners, and government agencies must be welcoming of all people, regardless of their gender identity and/or expression”.  She added that the flag raising was part of the Consulate’s efforts to raise awareness about the need to “press for parity and inclusivity, which is not just something that women must do, but something that the whole community must participate in.”

The video wall at the Philippine Center lobby featured the banner on International Women’s Day, as well as photos of past female Kalayaan Heroes, Filipino-American women who have made a difference in the United States, through their numerous and significant contributions towards Philippine development, and whose actions have brought a greater public awareness and appreciation of the contributions of Filipino-Americans to the greater community.

In support of the Consulate’s movement to Spark*Connect*Empower* the Filipino-American Community Filipina leaders and movers of the Community were featured in the video wall, to spark pride among girls and women throughout the Bay Area by presenting real, inspirational women that Filipinas can aspire to become.  The Heroes will be featured on the video wall for the entire month of March, in celebration of International Women’s Month.

In the afternoon, Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. honored the women of the Philippine Consulate by offering a symbolic rose of gratitude to all the women who work at the Consulate General. He thanked the personnel for their passion, dedication and love of country. END
