PHL Embassy in Tehran Celebrates the National Women’s Month with Filipino Community

14 March 2018 TEHRAN – The Philippine Embassy in Tehran, Iran celebrated the National Women’s Month with the theme: “We Make Change Work for Women” on March 09 at the official residence of the Ambassador.

About 20 leaders of the Filipino community were invited for a small get together and lunch with former House Speaker Jose de Venecia Jr. and his son, businessman Joey de Venecia as surprise VIP guests.

Former Speaker Jose de Venecia talked to the Filipino Community leaders for almost an hour and conveyed the appreciation of the Philippine Government for their contributions to the country’s economic development and in enhancing the image of the Filipino community in Iran.  Former Speaker de Venecia is also Presidential Envoy for Inter-Cultural Dialogue and Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC).

Philippine Ambassador to Iran Wilfredo C. Santos, on the other hand, encouraged the Filipino community leaders to continue to do their part in contributing to the national development of the Philippines. He encouraged them to invest in real properties in the Philippines, visit the country as balikbayans and consider the option of retiring in the Philippines with their Iranian spouses.

The Filipino community in Iran is composed of two organizations: the Filipino-Irano Community Association (FICA) and the Pinay-Irano Family Community. The community leaders themselves are professionals in their own right, having worked as English teachers, nurses, doctors, accountants and other professions in Iran. There are around 1,187 Filipino-Iranians in Iran, comprised mostly of spouses and children of former Iranian students to the Philippines. END
