PHL Consulate General in Manado Conducts Symposium on Women Empowerment, Gender Dimension of Human Trafficking

19 March 2018 MANADO – The Philippine Consulate General in Manado, Indonesia organized a symposium on women empowerment and gender dimension of human trafficking at the Consulate General on March 10.
Mr. Hard Frankly Merentek, Chief of the National Board for Placement and Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers in North Sulawesi, and Mr. Dodi Karnida Halilindar Atmaja, Chief of Immigration Division of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights, Regional Office of North Sulawesi shared their insights about empowerment of women and provided an overview on human trafficking and its root causes and risk factors that contributes to women’s vulnerability to trafficking and exploitation.
The two resource speakers also emphasize the role of their offices in terms of handling trafficking victims and their efforts in combating human trafficking and illegal recruitment.
In his closing remarks, Philippine Consul General Oscar G. Orcine expressed his appreciation to the resource speakers and participants for supporting the activity, and encouraged everyone to strengthen cooperation and collaboration in preventing and combating trafficking in persons.
The symposium was attended by Post’s personnel together with their dependents and private staff, Philippine Liaison Officer, Border Crossing Officers, and Filipino teachers from Manado Independent School (MIS). END
