23 March 2018 SINGAPORE – The Philippine Embassy in Singapore organized a lecture on “The Women in Rizal’s Life and How They Shaped a National Hero” for the members of the Filipino Community held at the Bayanihan Center’s Sentro Rizal on March 17 in celebration of the International Women’s Month.
Dr. Ambeth Ocampo, renowned Filipino historian, academic, journalist, author and expert on Dr. Jose Rizal, delivered the very informative and entertaining lecture.
Aside from holding this event in line with its Gender and Development (GAD) program, this lecture serves as the Embassy’s inaugural cultural literacy program under its Sentro Rizal to foster appreciation and knowledge of Philippine culture, history and arts among Filipinos in Singapore.
“Practically growing up with women in his life with nine sisters and his mother, Rizal was indeed shaped by the women in his life. Rizal particularly loved his mother so much which could explain why he remained single until his death”, Dr. Ocampo said. “Rizal represents our own capacity for greatness and heroism”. END
