28 July 2016 — Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever Mahilum-West and Cultural Officer Sharon Satin attended the launching of “The Net of the Siq: A Journey through the Siq Stability Project” Exhibition and the Petra Album, which was performed in a concert by Luca Aquino and the Jordanian National Orchestra in Petra, Jordan on July 23. The event aims to stir up support for Petra as Jordan’s most popular UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The exhibition showcased the Siq Stability Project funded by the Government of Italy and is spearheaded by UNESCO-Amman in partnership with Petra Development and Tourism Region Authority. The project is geared towards implementing landslide risk mitigation measures in the Siq of Petra to ensure the safety of the tourists and the monuments.
After the launching of the Exhibit, the guests were accompanied to “Little Petra” or the Siq Al-Barid for a guided tour and the launching of the album, “Petra” by Luca Aquino and the Jordanian National Orchestra.
The event was graced by the Commissioner of Petra Archaeological Park, Dr. Emad Hijazeen, UNESCO Representative to Jordan Ms. Costanza Farina, Dr. Talal Abu Ghazaleh, Chairman of the Jordanian National Orchestra Association, Her Excellency Lina Annab, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, and Her Royal Highness Princess Dana Firas, who was the patron of the event.
Aside from the Philippines, the following countries were represented by their corresponding diplomatic corps: Afghanistan, Iran, Italy, South Africa and Ukraine. END
