DOHA SCHOOL

27 July 2016 – As part of its campaign to raise awareness among its students on the recent victory of the Philippines over China on the case it filed at the Permanent Court of Arbitration, the Philippine School Doha (PSD) organized a symposium entitled “A Journey to Victory” last July 21 at the jam-packed PSD gymnasium.

The symposium was divided into two parts: the morning session at 10 AM was attended by Grades 6-8 students, with Deputy Head of Mission Gonaranao B. Musor as guest speaker; while the afternoon session at 1 PM was for Grades 9-11 students, with Philippine Ambassador to Qatar Wilfredo C. Santos as guest speaker.

In their presentations, Ambassador Santos and Consul Musor gave a brief background of the South China Sea/West Philippine Sea (SCS/WPS) issue, a summary of the Arbitral Tribunal’s ruling, and the official statement of Secretary of Foreign Affairs Perfecto R. Yasay, Jr. The lecture was then followed by a Q&A forum.

The event also gave PSD students the opportunity to showcase their artistry through various intermission numbers. This included a performance of the song “Journey to Victory”, which was originally composed by PSD students specifically for this program.  The song signifies the country’s pride in this legal triumph.

At the sidelines of the symposium, PSD also had an exhibit that displayed pertinent information and the timeline of the Philippines’ claim over the SCS/WPS. END
