BEIRUT

27 July 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Beirut spearheaded various activities at the Embassy to celebrate the 38th National Disability Prevention and Rehabilitation Week from July 17 to 23, 2016.  This year’s celebration was anchored on the theme “Karapatan ng Maykapansanan, Isakatuparan… Now Na!”

The Embassy kicked off its awareness campaign by posting banners of the said event in front of the Embassy building and on its official social media account beginning July 17.

A private film screening of the movie “Door to Door” was also held at the Philippine Embassy Function Room on July 20.  Members of the Philippine Embassy, Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) and Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) officers, staff and their family members, and the Migrant Workers and Overseas Filipinos Resource Center Wards attended the film screening.

Information Officer Loremie Bautista provided a brief background on Bill Porter, the real-life inspiration for the television movie. The film created a strong impression on the viewers thus stirring a dynamic discussion on the film’s highlights. Members of the audience were able to relate snippets of the film with their own experiences with friends and acquaintances from the PWD community.

In his welcome remarks, Chargé d’ Affaires Enrik Fort E. Revillas cited a brief background on the significance of celebrating the event, noting that the sublime paralytic and first Secretary of the Department of Foreign Affairs, Apolinario Mabini—an outstanding icon for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs)—has greatly influenced the declaration and observance of this event.

Chargé d’ Affaires Revillas thanked the audience for their participation and expressed hope that everyone will remain supportive of the PWDs who are part of their lives.  END
