28 July 2016 – It was full day’s work for Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa during his first overseas mission as the country’s top policeman.
He is in Malaysia to head the Philippine delegation to the 36th ASEAN Chiefs of Police (ASEANAPOL) conference currently being held in Kuala Lumpur, where he is expected to present during the plenary session the PNP’s country paper on current transnational crime concerns, including efforts aimed at strengthening international cooperation with other police forces in the region against drug trafficking and transnational syndicates.
The PNP Director General conducted bilateral meetings with Malaysian Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar and other police chiefs from other countries in the region, where he highlighted the need for intensified cooperation against illegal drugs.
Director General Dela Rosa also interacted with members of the Filipino community in Malaysia during his visit to the Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur. Ambassador J. Eduardo Malaya, Embassy officers and staff, and consular clients gave him a warm welcome.
He also toured the Embassy grounds and was briefed on Philippine-Malaysia relations.
A people person, he gamely posed for photographs with the members of the Embassy community. They greeted him, “Kasama ninyo kami sa kampanya laban sa droga. (We are with you in the campaign against illegal drugs).” END
