LA seminar on immigration

11 October 2013 – The Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles hosted its first Public Education Seminar on Immigration with the Filipino community, Filipino-American non-governmental organizations, the Filipino-American Press and the consulate officers and staff in attendance on October 4.

The Public Immigration Seminar was made possible through an earlier cooperation agreement between Consul General Helen Barber Dela Vega and the Executive Director of the Asian American Advancing Justice (AAAJ) in Los Angeles Stewart Kwoh.

The seminar was conducted by AAAJ Staff Attorney Meeran Mahmud and was followed by an open forum.  Attorney Mahmud laid out the procedures and mechanics for the acquisition of US citizenship, especially those related to family reunification, which seems to be the most prevalent case among Filipino-Americans.
