02 August 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in Amman, in collaboration with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office-Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (POLO-OWWA), marked World Against Human Trafficking Day at the worker's shelter in POLO-OWWA last July 30.
The commemoration covered brief talks by Philippine Ambassador to Jordan Junever M. Mahilum-West, Consul Cassandra Sawadjaan and Labor Attaché Florenda Herrera on what constitutes the crime of human trafficking and the measures to be taken to combat it. The Passion Freedom film on "Human Trafficking and Modern Day Slavery" was shown to illustrate the prevalence of human trafficking worldwide. A number of wards of the shelter later shared their experiences of being trafficked.
In a related event, a meeting was held at the Embassy on July 27 with the Filipino community in Amman to commemorate World Against Trafficking Day, with the same program. END
