03 August 2016 – The Philippine Consulate General and Philippine Trade and Investment Office in New York (PTIC-NY) recently hosted a Philippine Startup Business Simulation Board Game entitled “Upstart” at the Philippine Center Boardroom.

Manila-based Filipino entrepreneur and game inventor Richard Dacalos led the simulation together with Mr. Earl Valencia, President and Co-Founder of the IdeaSpace Foundation.  Mr. Wendell Gaa, economic assistant at the Philippine Consulate General, who represented Consul Felipe Carino, director of the economic section, and Trade Representative Katrina Banzon helped facilitate the simulation.

Participants in the two-hour “Upstart” board game were given the chance to experience and simulate the successes and failures of starting a business.  Effective networking, crowdfunding, entrepreneurship, detecting habits and blind spots, and insights on taking necessary action in starting and maintaining a business are among the insights that the participants were able to draw out from the board game.

The PCG in New York hopes to engage “techpreneurs” and Filipino startups in organizing projects that will help promote the startup and technology scene among younger generation Filipino-Americans.

The activity was done in cooperation with notable partners in the Filipino business community led by Mr. Earl Valencia, founder of IdeaSpace in the Philippines, and the Philippine Trade and Investment Office. END
