09 August 2016 — The Philippine Embassy and the Philippine Mission to ASEAN participated in the 49th ASEAN Anniversary celebration organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia.
The event included the opening of the Photo Exhibition, “ASEAN Community in 2015 and Beyond” at the Museum of Fine Arts and Ceramics, Old Town, Jakarta, from August 06 to 13. Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno LP Marsudi opened the photo exhibition on August 06. As FM Retno made her rounds of the different booths, Philippine Permanent Representative to ASEAN Elizabeth Buensuceso welcomed her to the Philippine booth.
The exhibition showcased 60 photographs depicting the history of ASEAN; ASEAN cooperation within the scope of Pillar Political and Security, Economic Pilar, Pilar and ASEAN Socio-Cultural and natural beauty and cultural diversity of the member countries of ASEAN.
The photo exhibition was organized in cooperation with the ASEAN Secretariat and ASEAN Member States Representatives in Jakarta: the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam.
Four photographs exclusively focused on the Philippines were provided by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts and PINDOT. The works of Marian Hernando and Karol Antonio were showcased at the exhibition.
Ms. Margaret Pascual represented the Philippines during the cultural performances. She sang “Dahil Sa ’Yo”. Mr. Sam Barrera rendered a mix medley Filipino-Indonesian songs “Anak,” “Karena Cinta” and “Kay Ganda ng Ating Musika”, which were both warmly received by the crowd.
A culinary festival featured ASEAN cuisines from Indonesia and ASEAN member states. The Philippine booth prepared kakanin and palamig of biko, polvoron, sago’t gulaman and offered guests with dried mango balls and Oishi products of PT Liwayway.
In addition to the celebration in Jakarta, similar activities will also be held at the Museum of Asian-African Conference, Bandung and some ASEAN Studies Centers in the various provinces in Indonesia in August and September 2016. END
