11 August 2016 — The Philippine Consulate General in Shanghai visited the Dai-ichi Manufacturing Plant in East Shanghai to reach out to the Filipinos living and working at the compound and kick off the Consulate’s month-long mini-Filipino Festival in celebration of Buwan ng Wika (Filipino Language Month).

Ms. Lee Mie Yee, Filipino General Manager of Dai-ichi Plant, welcomed the Consulate General officials and staff. She also gave a briefing on their operations and a tour of the sprawling manufacturing plant which includes dormitories for the Filipinos, a mini-farm and recreational facilities. Before the start of the film showing, Consulate General personnel and Filipino workers partook of a community lunch of sumptuous Filipino and Chinese food specially prepared by the Dai-ichi community. After lunch, everyone participated in some team building activities and games which further brought together the Consulate and Dai-ichi’s personnel.

In cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs’ (DFA) Office of the Undersecretary for International and Economic Relations (OUIER) and Star Cinema Productions, the Consulate General will be screening the blockbuster hits “All You Need is Pag-Ibig” (All You Need is Love) and “Beauty and the Bestie” to different Filipino community enclaves in Shanghai.

At Dai-ichi, the film “Beauty and the Bestie” was a big hit. In his remarks prior to the screening, Vice Consul André Peter C. Estanislao, informed those present of the 2016 Buwan ng Wika celebration theme, “Filipino: Wika ng Karunungan” (Filipino: Language of Wisdom), and encouraged everyone to continuously use Filipino not only as a medium of communication within the Filipino community but also as an effective tool to debate ideas and gain further insights into one’s heritage and culture.

The Consulate General will continue its mini-Film Festival with the screening of the films and community outreach at the Liwayway Oishi Manufacturing Plant and the International Philippine School in Shanghai in the coming weeks. END
