11 August 2016 – The Philippines eyes increased chicken exports to the Republic of Korea (ROK) following the recent approval of two Philippine poultry facilities to export chicken meat to ROK granted by the government.

LDP Farms Food Corporation and Johanna’s Chicken Processing Center Inc. successfully secured export accreditation after the final approval was issued by the ROK government on July 25. The two facilities were able to satisfy the stringent requirements set by South Korea’s Ministry of Food, Drug and Safety (MFDS) and the Animal and Plant Quarantine Agency (QIA).

This accreditation was secured after the Philippine Embassy – working through the Philippine Agriculture Office and in coordination with regulatory agencies under the Philippine Department of Agriculture (DA), including the Bureau of Animal Industry (BAI) and National Meat Inspection Service (NMIS) – facilitated the dispatch from May 12 to 19 of a South Korean On-Site Inspection Mission to the Philippines to inspect the poultry facilities.

“We are very happy that two Philippine poultry facilities are now accredited to export chicken meat to Korea, which proves that Philippine products continue to cater to the exacting standards of the South Korean market. This development boosts the Philippine Embassy’s vigorous economic diplomacy efforts,” said Philippine Ambassador to ROK Raul S. Hernandez.

The ROK government’s accreditation of Philippine poultry facilities augurs well for the expansion of chicken exports to the country. It signifies the continuing interest of ROK to source chicken meat from the Philippines, thanks to the latter’s avian influenza-free status. The Philippines was first granted permission by the MFDS and QIA to export chicken meat to ROK in 2013. END
