23 August 2016 — The recently established group, the London Filipino Center (LFC) was launched at the New Malden United Reform Church in Kingston, London on August 20.
LFC aims to teach young Filipinos in the United Kingdom how to speak, read, and write Filipino fluently. It also aspires to educate communities about the Filipino culture through art, music, dance, history, sport and recreation.
The initiative to set up the Filipino language classes is a result of years of planning and organizing by the group under the leadership of its founder Mr. Rick Patriarca.
LFC is supported by two language and education consultants, namely: Ms. Imelda Ferrer of DepEd Makati and Dr. Nenita Pambid Domingo of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA).
LFC will be offering Filipino language classes beginning September 03 in two locations, central London and Kingston upon Thames. The language program will initially accept children for its first school year. Its current school year has five terms that run from September 03 to July 22, 2017.
Consul Rommel Romato of the Philippine Embassy represented Ambassador Evan Garcia at the inauguration ceremony. The Mayor of the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames Councilor Geoff Austin and his wife Mayoress Shiela Austin also graced the occasion.
