24 August 2016 — The Philippine Consulate General in Guangzhou joined other ASEAN Consulates General in Guangzhou in organizing a flag-raising ceremony on August 08 to celebrate the 49th anniversary of the establishment of the ASEAN. Also marked during the occasion was the 25th anniversary of ASEAN-China dialogue relations. The ceremony was held at the Thai Consulate General in Guangzhou.
During the ceremony, the ASEAN anthem, “The ASEAN Way,” was sung by the Filipino Chorale Singers, a group composed of members of the Filipino community from Guangzhou and Dongguan.
Following the ceremony, the Vietnamese Consul General, the Dean of the ASEAN Consular Corps in Guangzhou, and the representatives of the Guangdong Government took the opportunity to highlight both the growth of ASEAN through the years, as well as the development of the ASEAN-China dialogue relationship.
Guests partook of refreshments prepared by the different ASEAN consulates general, which included a serving of palitaw, a traditional Filipino sweet made of boiled glutinous rice and served with sugar, coconut and sesame seeds.
Also in attendance were Mr. Li Yiwei, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangdong Provincial Government, Mr. Diao Ailin, Deputy Secretary General of the Guangzhou Municipal Government, guests from the Guangdong and Guangzhou Foreign Affairs Offices, and representatives from the Guangzhou Consular Corps.
