14 October 2013 - In pursuit of the Philippine Embassy in Warsaw’s initiative to promote education and  scientific exchanges  between the Philippines and Poland, Ambassador Patricia Ann V. Paez met with educators and scientists in Poznan last September 26.

Her activities in Poznan were arranged by Mr. Waldek Miksa and Atty. Jerzy Laskowski who also accompanied her during her meetings.

Warsaw  Poznan University2She discussed possible areas and mechanisms for bilateral cooperation with key officials of  the Poznan University of Life Sciences Warsaw  Poznan University3(PULS), namely with Vice Rector for Studies Dr. Monika Kozlowska; Faculty Erasmus Program Coordinator Prof. Andrzej Wojciechowski; and the Head of Agriculture and Forestry Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies Dr. Zbigniew Broda.

The PULS is the leading university in the fields of life sciences and biological sciences in Poland.

Ambassador Paez was also given a briefing on the work of the PULS’ Department of Biotechnology and Food Microbiology and was given a tour of its laboratory facilities by Prof. Dr. Wlodzimierz Grajek and Dr. Tomasz Jankowski.

Among the achievements of PULS are its “pioneering studies on DNA for diagnostic purposes to study DNA using DNA  amplification by PCR and genetic finger-printing; biotechnology research resulting to patent applications in Poland and in the USA; pioneering studies on diagnostic methods concerning nutrition and watering requirements of trees; and unique studies on bioactive food with probiotic properties.”

The university’s “eight Faculties offer a wide scope of education within 22 fields of study and over 30 specializations.” The mission of PULS is focused on research and teaching functions in the fields of agri-food and forestry, wood technology, rural development, environmental protection, biotechology, biology, horticulture and landscape architecture.

With an excellent scientific staff, the PULS has 831 academic teachers, including 148 full professors, and the highest teaching standards. It has 12 experimental farms and stations, including 8 agricultural, 1 with the agricultural and pomological profile and 3 forestry stations.
