26 August 2016 — Philippine Ambassador to Singapore Antonio A. Morales joined the Inter-Religious Organization (IRO) in its memorial service for Singapore’s former President S R Nathan held at Maxwell Road, Singapore. Attended by 120 guests, leaders of the 10 faiths led the observance of a one-minute silence.
The group recounted how the late former president, who was 92 years old, was a social worker at heart. Senior Minister of State Maliki Osman recalled the time he was with the National Development Ministry when the then President S R Nathan invited him to the Istana to discuss ways to better help lower-income Malays. IRO president Rustom Ghadiali also shared how the late former president thought often about preserving Singapore’s religious harmony amidst the recent threat of terrorism in the country.
The late former president lies in state at the Parliament House. END
