30 August 2016 — In partnership with the family of the late Senator Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino in the Bay Area, headed by Mrs. Lupita Aquino-Kashiwahara, a mass was held at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center to commemorate the 33rd death anniversary of Senator Aquino.
The mass was celebrated by Fr. Arnold Zamora of the Holy Name of Jesus Parish, and attended by the family and close friends of the Aquino family; the Deputy Consul General of Russia, Mr. Andrey Varlamov; the President of the Congress of Russian-Americans, Inc., Ms. Natalie Sabelnik; Ambassador Romeo and Dr. Azucena Arguelles, and leaders of the Filipino-American Community.
The event, called “Friends Meeting Friends, Remembering Ninoy Aquino”, is a yearly event celebrated by the Consulate General, in partnership with the family of Senator Aquino. Consul General Henry S. Bensurto, Jr. welcomed the Community to the Philippine Center, recalling the inspiration that Senator Aquino gave to the Filipino people at a crucial point in Philippine history.
In behalf of the family of Senator Aquino, Mr. Ken Kashiwahara expressed thanks to the Bay Area Community for its continued remembrance of the “shot that was heard around the world” and the death of our national hero, who incited courage and hope in millions of Filipinos, not just in the Philippines, but around the world.
