31 August 2016 — Since it was first established in 1995, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan initiated its first dialogue with the Filipinos in Trento, Northern Italy on August 30. Trento is home to more than 500 Filipinos who started working here since the 1990s.

In her message, Philippine Consul General to Milan Marichu Mauro extolled the important contribution that Filipinos have continuously been providing Trento, particularly in the development of its socio-cultural life. She emphasized the longstanding relations of Filipinos with the city of Trento and their important role to the prosperity and stability of the city and the region.

The Consul General also highlighted the importance of bringing the Consulate closer to the Filipino community as a way of effectively engaging them in various activities of the Consulate General.  She said the Consulate General will continue organizing events that will address the community’s welfare.

The Consulate General’s officers, including representatives from the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Social Security System (SSS), and Pag-IBIG, addressed the concerns of Filipinos for their consular documents, as well as benefits, privileges, and memberships in these institutions.

A new set of officers of the Samahan ng mga Manggagawang Pilipino ng Trento were officially inducted by Consul General Mauro in an oath taking ceremony held at the social hall of the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore. END
