02 September 2016 – In celebration of Buwan ng Wika and the 70th Anniversary of Philippine-Australia Relations, the Philippine Embassy in Canberra joined the Fourth Annual Tribyang Pinoy Challenge organized by the Filipino Language School of Canberra at the Weston Creek Community Centre in Canberra, Australia on August 27.
This annual event is aimed at raising funds to support the Filipino Language School’s operations. The school caters to both Filipinos and Australians who express the desire to learn Filipino. This is seen as a fitting platform for people-to-people linkages while contributing to the diverse culture present in Australia.
Minister and Consul General Nina Cainglet of the Philippine Embassy commended the Filipino Language School of Canberra for leading the celebration of Buwan ng Wika in August. She also shared the highlights of the 70th Anniversary of the establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Australia.
The Filipino-Australian communities enjoyed the fun-filled event, which included Filipino food stalls, dance performances, and raffle prizes.
Eight teams competed for the championship trophy. The participants were tested on Philippine history, culture, salawikain (sayings), bugtong (riddles), contemporary politics, Filipino songs, movies and landmarks.
Students from the Australian National University Filipino Association (ANUFA), bagged the Tribyang Pinoy Challenge 2016 championship, followed by Team Halakhak, 2nd and the Philippine Embassy 3rd . END
