02 September—Filipino pianist, Roy Imperio received a standing ovation at a piano concert entitled “Concierto de Verano 2016” at the Angelica Morales Auditorium of the Escuela Superior de Musica in Mexico City on August 28.

Other performers included Mr. Samuel Sanchez, a Mexican pianist and former piano student of Mr. Imperio, and Mr. Aaron Tucker, an American tenor.

Mr. Roy Imperio is a Filipino pianist based in Massachusetts, U.S.A. who has performed extensively as a piano soloist, accompanist, collaborative pianist, and chamber musician in the United States, Canada, England, France, Russia, Ukraine, Mexico and the Philippines. 

He holds music degrees from the University of the Philippines and Andrews University.  He has released two CDs – “Music of Frederic Chopin:  a Life of Passion¨ for solo piano and ¨Holiday Music in New England” with the Bulfinch Players.

Mr. Imperio played solo pieces including a Filipino composition by Filipino composer, Augusto Espino entitled ¨The Suite¨.  The piece incorporates Filipino folk songs like Atin Cu Pung Singsing,   Telebong, Caturog na Nonoy and Pen Pen de Sarapen.   Classical piano pieces by Chopin and Schubert were also performed by Mr. Imperio and his co-performers during the concert.

The Philippine Embassy in Mexico co-sponsored the event. Ambassador Eduardo Jose A. de Vega and other Embassy official attended the concert. END
