05 September 2016 – The Philippines participated in the 1st ASEAN-Russia University Network held at the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok, Russian Federation from September 01 to 02.

The delegation was composed of Commissioner Alex Brillantes of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), Philippine Ambassador to the Russian Federation Carlos D. Sorreta, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Luningning G. Camoying (Philippine Embassy in Moscow), Dr. Carlos Tabunda (Development Academy of the Philippines), Dr. Antoinette Raquiza (UP Asian Center), Dr. Rhonda T. Padilla (Panpacific University North Philippines), and Mr. Engelbert Pasag (Panpacific University North Philippines).

ASEAN and Russian scholars, think tank experts, university administrators, and government officials networked with each other and discussed the status and future prospects for ASEAN-Russia cooperation in the field of education during the two-day forum.

The said participants also exchanged views on the role of Track 2 diplomacy in security, university economy and management, cooperation in science, technology and innovation, and energy efficiency, among other topics.

 

High-ranking Russian government officials joined in the discussions led by Education and Science Minister Olga Vasilieva, Energy Minister Alexander Novak, Mr. Andrei Fursenko, Aide to President Vladimir Putin and former Philippine Honorary Consul General in St. Petersburg, and Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov.

This event is part of the year-long celebration of the 20th anniversary of ASEAN-Russia dialogue partnership. It was organized by the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Far Eastern Federal University of Russia. END
