07 September 2016 — Seven (7) Filipinos from Syria who availed of the Government’s Mandatory Repatriation Program (MRP) are set to arrive in the Philippines on September 09, 9:15 p.m. on board Oman Air flight WY843 at Terminal 1 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
The Filipinos will arrive in the Philippines in time for the celebration of Eid’l Adha on September 12.
The repatriation of the seven Filipinos was made possible through the joint effort and collaboration of the Philippine Embassies in Damascus, Syria and Beirut, Lebanon.
The Filipinos will be travelling on September 08 by land from Damascus, Syria to Lebanon’s Masna’a border, where a team from the Philippine Embassy in Beirut will be receiving them and facilitating immigration procedures during their transit at Beirut’s Rafik Hariri International Airport.
Meanwhile, the Philippine Embassy in Damascus continues to coordinate with the Syrian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates for the issuance of exit visas for OFWs who are currently sheltered at the Embassy’s Halfway Quarters.
Similar to the previous repatriations, the issuance of the exit visas to the seven (7) Filipinos was facilitated, and the payment of other fees, related exit requirements, and penalties were waived through an understanding between the Philippine and Syrian governments.
The new batch of repatriates brings the total number of Filipinos repatriated from Syria to 5,840 since the unrest erupted in 2011. Of this figure, 2,757 were repatriated through Lebanon, with the cooperation of the Philippine Embassy in Beirut.
With the MRP still in place, the Philippine Embassy in Damascus strongly urges the next-of-kin of Filipino workers who remain in Syria to provide information on their family member’s whereabouts so that immediate assistance can be extended to them.
