14 September 2016 — The Philippines attended for the first time Russia’s International Military-Technical Forum “Army-2016” that opened on September 06 at the Kubinka Airfield in Moscow Region. The high-level delegation was headed by Undersecretary for Finance and Materiel of the Philippine Department of National Defense Raymundo de Vera Elefante. Joining him were Rear Admiral Rafael G. Mariano, Vice Commander of the Philippine Navy, Major General Benjamin R. Madrigal, Commander of the 4th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army, Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta, and Third Secretary and Vice Consul Luningning G. Camoying, Political and Military Affairs Officer of the Philippine Embassy in Moscow.
At the sidelines of the event, Undersecretary Elefante met with Deputy Defense Minister Anatoly Antonov and Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation of the Russian Federation to explore opportunities for Philippines-Russia cooperation in the field of security and military-technical matters.
“Army-2016” which runs from September 06 to 11 is Russia’s main exhibition event showcasing the latest innovations in the field of armament and military equipment. This large-scale exhibition brings together the major players in Russia’s military-industrial complex and delegations from 80 countries, including the Philippines.
The program also includes naval, land forces, and air force demonstrations as well as roundtable discussions and conferences on a wide range of issues, such as military logistics, radioelectronic warfare and radio intelligence, armaments and equipment for radiological, chemical, and biological weapons protection, and robotics, among many others.
