15 September 2016 — The Philippine Embassy through its representative, Mr. Mark T. Arinquin, Cultural and Information Officer, along with selected Heads of Missions and other members of the diplomatic corps, participated in the 2016 Regatta Brunei Darussalam on August 21 held at the Brunei River, Bandar Seri Begawan which was held in conjunction with His Majesty’s 70th Birthday Celebration.
The event was graced by His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, taking part in the 15-Rowers Fiberglass Special Boat Race. His Majesty led his team to win the special race against the other seven teams, including the Diplomatic Team, which finished fifth.
The Regatta Brunei Darussalam has become an annual event and a part of Brunei Darussalam’s calendar of activities. This year’s Regatta saw teams from Malaysia and local teams from the private sector. The event drew a big crowd despite the midday heat and got the attendees cheering for their favorite teams. END
