15 September 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in Argentina participated in a trade and investments workshop entitled, “Vinculacion con el Sudeste Asiatico” (Linkages with Southeast Asia), in the Argentine province of Cordoba from September 01 to 02. Organized by the semi-public organization Agencia ProCordoba, the event was also attended by the trade representatives of Malaysia and Thailand.
During the workshop, Third Secretary and Vice Consul Miguel Hornilla highlighted the commercial ties between the Philippines and Argentina, expounded on the country’s economic growth, and encouraged participants to consider the Philippines both as a source of goods and as an investment destination during a meeting with Cordoba’s Minister of Trade Robert Avalle, an academic forum with business students of the Universidad Siglo 21, and a networking activity with Cordoba-based businessmen.
The events generated great interest and feedback from participants. An estimated 90 business students took part in the academic forum, while at least 40 businessmen joined the networking activity with the ASEAN representatives.
According to Agencia ProCordoba, total trade between Argentina and Southeast Asia hit US$4.6 billion in 2015. In the same year, trade between the Philippines and Argentina was registered at US$230 million. END
