 LA House 1

22 September 2016 — Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz began his official visit to San Diego with a stop-over at the House of the Philippines at Balboa Park. Consul General Cruz was welcomed by Mr. Romulo Sarno, Jr., President and Mr. Rommel Alberto, Vice President of the House of the Philippines.

In 1961, the House of the Philippines became a member of the House of Pacific Relations (HPR). The HPR aims to promote the culture, customs, tradition, history and food of its 34 member countries. The Philippines currently shares its space with the House of France. For more than 50 years, the House of the Philippines gave the Filipino-American community an opportunity to share Filipino culture with visitors from all over the world.

The House of the Philippines is now campaigning for the construction of a new standalone cottage in Balboa Park. The goal is to raise $350,000 for construction, new displays, audio/visual equipment and an endowment for operations.

Consul General Cruz expressed his appreciation to Mr. Sarno and Mr. Alberto for their efforts in the campaign to build a new House of the Philippines. The Consul General extended his offer of assistance in terms of tapping the Philippine Department of Tourism – Los Angeles and the Philippine National Historical Commission for displays that can be featured in the new House of the Philippines. Consul General Cruz also made the commitment to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the new House during the 4th quarter of 2016 and the flag-raising ceremony in front of the House of the Philippines on June 12, 2017 in celebration of the 119th Philippine Independence Day.
