22 September 2016 — Philippine Ambassador to Argentina Ma. Amelita C. Aquino joined the Ambassadors of Indonesia, Thailand, and Viet Nam in a visit to the city of Puerto Madryn located in the south of Argentina from September 16 to 19.

Puerto Madryn is known as Argentina’s national capital of scuba diving. Tourism is one of the economic pillars of the city, as well as the production of primary aluminum and aluminum products, and fisheries.

The Ambassadors met with Puerto Madryn Mayor Ricardo Sastre and members of the Chamber of Industry, Commerce, Production and Tourism of Puerto Madryn headed by its President, Mr. Manuel Perez.

During these meetings, the city officials and businessmen were briefed on ASEAN and the opportunities for business and cooperation in the region and in the countries of ASEAN. The Ambassadors were also given a tour of the sports facilities in the city as the local government places a strong emphasis on sports as a mechanism for social inclusion and as a means to prevent drug addiction among the population, especially the youth.
