 PRAGUE 1

23 September 2016 — The Philippine Embassy in the Czech Republic presented the Filipino film “Kid Kulafu” on Friday evening, September 16 at the Lucerna Theatre as the Philippine entry to the 5th ASEAN Film Festival in Prague.

The ASEAN Film Festival is organized by the ASEAN Committee in Prague (ACP), which consists of the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Viet Nam. It is an annual five-day event showcasing selected films by the ACP with the view of promoting ASEAN in the Czech Republic through films.

The film, a biographical sports drama by Director Paul Soriano, tells the engaging story about the childhood and early life of world boxing multiple-champion Senator Manny Pacquiao.

In his remarks before the start of the screening, Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Vic Lecaros acknowledged the roles played by many people behind the Festival’s success. He also reminded the viewers, who included members of the Diplomatic Corps, government representatives, business groups, Filipino community members, and the Czech movie-going public that the one or two brief scenes of conflict were of battles that took place more than 20 years ago and that “...the Philippine government’s peace talks with rebel groups in the Southern Philippines are addressing the grievances of the 5% of Filipinos who are Muslim and ...  of the remaining Communist group in the country...”

The screening was followed by a simple reception offering viewers Filipino delicacies such as lumpia, puto and pancit hosted by the Philippine Embassy in Prague.  END
