28 September 2016 — Philippine Ambassador to the Czech Republic Victoriano M. Lecaros participated in the unveiling of a memorial plaque of Eberhard Eysert (1860-1920) at the picturesque Fishermen’s Stairs in Litomerice, in the house where he lived. Eberhard, a painter and professional restorer, spent most of his life in Litomerice, hometown of Jose Rizal’s close friend Ferdinand Blumentritt.
Eberhard painted a portrait of Blumentritt for Jose Rizal and he entertained them in Vienna when Blumentritt and Rizal visited in 1887.
The memorial plaque was created by Anton Yarzhomber, a Russian painter, sculptor and iconographer who is also the current owner of the house.
After the unveiling, Ambassador Lecaros and Mayor Chlupac paid their respects on Eberhard Eysert and Ferdinand Blumentritt at the local cemetery by laying flowers at their tombs.
Attending the event were Czech historian Oldrich Dokocil, Litomerice artists as well as local officials. END
