28 September 2016 — The Philippines received an Excellence in Leadership Award as a medical tourism destination during an invitation-only VIP Gala Dinner at the 9th World Medical Tourism and Global Healthcare Congress at the Gaylord National Resort in National Harbor, Maryland from September 25 to 28.
The glass plaque honoring the Philippines as a medical tourism destination was received by Undersecretary Alma Rita Jimenez of the Department of Tourism and Minister Jose Victor V. Chan Gonzaga of the Philippine Embassy in Washington, D.C. Also in attendance was Ms. Zeny Pallugna, Officer-in-Charge of the Philippine Tourism Office in New York.
“The Philippines is honored by this excellence in leadership award. This is recognition of our steadfast commitment to improving our medical tourism program and providing high quality health services for all,” said Minister Patrick A. Chuasoto, Charge d’Affaires, a.i. of the Philippine Embassy in a statement.
The Excellence in Leadership awards recognizes the global leaders and destinations dedicated to medical tourism and health tourism. The awards also honor the key countries highlighted and ranked within the 2016 Global Medical Tourism Index (MTI). The Philippines ranked 19th as a global destination, and 6th in Asia. END
