28 September 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Yangon, together with the Philippines-Myanmar Friendship Team, celebrated the 60th anniversary of Philippines-Myanmar diplomatic relations with a fashion show called, Passion for Fashion for Cross-Cultural Friendship and Community Building.
The event, highlighting a collaboration of Philippines and Myanmar fashion designers, is a milestone since it is the first cross-cultural fashion event in Myanmar and the first one participated in by Filipino designers.
The event opened with the collections from the Myanmar designers. Ma Myint Zu showcased her elegant traditional wedding clothes. Latt Latt impressed the crowd with her evening dresses while Pyae Soe Aung paraded her bride and groom collection. Designer Ma Pont captivated audience with her Kachin inspired collection. Designer Thwin Su Htwe showcased modern day party dresses, and Kaung Myat with traditional royal wardrobe for men.
On the Philippine side, designers Len Cabili, Len Napomuceno, Tonichi Nocom and Dong Omaga-Diaz presented traditional Philippine textiles in modern contemporary styles and silhouettes.
Len Cabili’s collections were fashionable everyday casual clothes and elegant evening dress in ethnic fabrics. Dong Omaga-Diaz collections showcased stylized and comfortable Filipiniana dresses in various lengths and shapes while Tonichi Nocom featured his casual wear of natural fiber and modern barong collections for men.
Len Napomuceno awed the audience with her a classy, stylish, and elegant Filipiniana wear in pineapple organza and other indigenous fabric materials. The Philippine collections were embellished with Wynn Wynn Ong’s fabulous one-of-a-kind accessories.
“The project demonstrates the nurturing of creative industries that support natural and cultural heritage, promote cross-cultural friendships, and inspire possible economic activities,” said Consul General Maria Lourdes M. Salcedo, Co-Convener of Passion for Fashion and member of the steering committee.
Passion for Fashion was organized by the Philippines-Myanmar Friendship and Team in cooperation with the Philippine Embassy as part of the celebration of the 60th Anniversary of Philippines-Myanmar diplomatic relations. END
