29 September 2016— Dr. Patricio N. Abinales. Director of the Center for Philippine Studies (CPS), University of Hawaii at Manoa, and Ms. Clemen Montero, Ilocano and Tagalog Lecturer at the UH and Educational Specialist for the CPS called on Philippine Consul General Gina A. Jamoralin on September 22.
The CPS was originally established as a program in 1975 by an Act of the Hawaii State Legislature to recognize the contributions of Filipinos to the history of Hawaii and to highlight the academic expertise on the Philippines at the University of Hawaii at Manoa.
It was then established at the University of Hawaii as a Philippine Studies Program under the Asia Studies Program, which later became the Center for Asian and Pacific Studies.
During the courtesy call, Dr. Abinales discussed with the Consul General possible joint projects between the Center and the Philippine Consulate General such as those focusing on education and Philippine culture and the arts.
They also discussed the upcoming International Symposium on Filipino Migration to be held on October 8 and 9 in New Orleans, Louisiana that the Consul General and Ms. Montero will be participating in. END
