30 September 2016- Philippine Ambassador to Mexico Eduardo Jose A. de Vega paid a courtesy call on the Governor of the State of Guerrero, Héctor Antonio Astudillo Flores at the latter’s official residence in the Diamante District of Acapulco on September 26.  It was agreed that all efforts must be exerted to ensure the strengthening of the bonds of friendship between the Philippines and the State of Guerrero because of the special importance of the historical relationship between Acapulco and Manila.

The Ambassador also met with the Mayor of the City of Acapulco,  Jesús Evodio Velásquez Aguirre in the morning of September 27. 

During the said meetings, Ambassador de Vega affirmed the commitment of the Philippine Embassy in Mexico to reactivate the Sister City Agreement between the cities of Manila and Acapulco, which was signed in 1969. 

The officials that Ambassador de Vega met with agreed that one way of fostering closer ties is to increase exchanges in both the cultural and commercial sphere.

Ambassador de Vega also met with the members of the Filipino community in Acapulco namely, Eulogio Alonzo, Carlos Almadin and Josephine Anluz Gloria. All have assimilated well into Mexican society and informed the Philippine Ambassador that they have pleasant relationships and interactions with the citizens of Acapulco.

The Philippine Honorary Consul to Acapulco, Dr. Mario de la O Almazán was instrumental in assuring that Ambassador de Vega’s visit to Acapulco resulted into fruitful meetings with high-level officials of the State of Guerrero. END
