MILAN

03 October 2016— In line with its Gender and Development Program of empowering women by raising awareness, the Philippine Consulate General in Milan, in collaboration with Associazione Italiana Malati di Cancro, parenti e amici (AIMAC), conducted a seminar on Female Cancer Awareness in Mestre, Italy on September 25.

Awareness is the key to the prevention and treatment of cancer.  Cancer deaths have significant economic costs and impact heavily on the families’ resources.  Those affected lose the opportunity to work, at times preventing other family members to engage in the same, as they have to be taken care of, thus resulting in loss of income.

The resource speaker, Dr. Maria Rosaria Grasso of AIMAC discussed the primary prevention, diagnosis, surgery and treatment of the different types of cancer prevalent among women such as breast cancer, ovarian cancer, cervical cancer, and cancer of the uterus.

The event culminated with an open forum where attendees had the opportunity to ask Dr. Grasso regarding issues on cancer risks and prevention. END
