03 October 2016— The Philippine Embassy in Mexico participated in a doll auction event organized by the MGAS Foundation for the benefit of children with cerebral palsy as part of its activities in celebration of the 13th Cerebral Palsy Awareness and Protection Week.

22 dolls dressed in the traditional attire of participating countries were auctioned by the Foundation at a gala-reception held on September 28 at the Marquis Reforma Hotel in Mexico City.  Around 200 guests composed of diplomats, philanthropists, businessmen and prominent figures of Mexican society attended the event.

The Philippine doll was adorned in a beautiful Maria Clara dress provided by the Embassy and was sold for MXN$21,000 (approx. US$1,105.00).  Proceeds of the auction went to the Foundation.

The doll auction was a laudable project because it did not only raise funds for a good cause but likewise promoted multi-cultural exchanges among the participants.  Participating countries included Argentina, Brazil, Bolivia, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Ecuador, Egypt, Finland, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, Lebanon, Mexico, Philippines, Russia, Singapore, South Africa, Turkey and Uruguay.

The MGAS Foundation provides financial assistance to children in extreme poverty who suffer from cerebral palsy.  Led by its President Mari Rouss Sandhu, various charitable events have been organized by the foundation to support medical operations and other medical needs of these children. END
