18 October 2013 – The celebration of the Filipino-American History Month in the Midwest continues, with several activities conducted within the past two weeks, and several more still to come.
Proclamations from the following offices were release to honor Filipino-American History Month: Office of the Governor of Illinois, Office of the Mayor of Chicago, Office of the Mayor of Skokie, Office of the Mayor of Bolingbrook, Office of the Mayor of Darien, Office of the Mayor of Glendale Heights, Office of the Mayor of Tinley Park and Office of the Mayor of Mokena.
There were a total of six large events that were celebrated in the past two weeks, kicked off by the Adobo Fest last September 29. Other events that were successfully celebrated were an exhibit at the Skokie Historical Museum; presentation of Noel Alumit's award-winning play, "Mr. and Mrs. LaQuesta Go Dancing"; exhibit of a collection of paintings and drawings by Chicago-based Filipino-American artists; and a screening of the film "Harana."
Also recently concluded was the US premier of the documentary “Cross Currents: Journey to Asian Environments” by famed filmmaker Nick Deocampo at the University of Chicago. The screening was co-sponsored by the Consulate, the University of the Philippines Alumni Association of Greater Chicago and the University of Chicago.
More celebrations are scheduled for the remainder of the month. END
