18 October 2013 - The Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu informed the Department of Foreign Affairs that Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales visited Honolulu, Hawaii from October 13 to 16.
During her visit, she paid a courtesy call on Consul General Julius D. Torres and had a tour of the premises of the Consulate. The Ombudsman was able to meet Judge Susan Oki Mollway, United States (US) District Chief for Hawaii; US Attorney Florence Nakakuni, Federal Law Enforcement Official; and US Attorney Cynthia Lie at the Federal Building in Honolulu.
The Consul General and some leaders of the Filipino-American organizations in Honolulu hosted a dinner for the Ombudsman at the Empress Restaurant.
The highlight of the visit of Ombudsman Morales was a lecture entitled, “Corruption in the Asia-Pacific: The Philippine Experience,” at the University of Hawaii William S. Richardson School of Law, on October 15.
The lecture was attended by faculty, students and guests of the University of Hawaii organized by Atty. El Cid Butuyan, Senior Litigation Specialist of the World Bank, in cooperation with the USAID, Filipino community and the Consulate. END
