DUB WETEX

07 October 2016 — Philippine Consul General to Dubai Paul Raymund P. Cortes attended the Opening Ceremonies of the 2016 edition of Dubai’s Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX) on October 04 at the World Trade Center.

The WETEX 18th Annual Exhibit is the region’s most important exhibit featuring innovations in vital industries that address efficient and green energy, water conservation, science and technology, and environment-friendly solutions. It is organized and held under the patronage of Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance, and President of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA).

Over 1,000 exhibitor-companies from more than 50 countries involved in water technology; energy technology; control safety and system protection; oil and gas; and electrical fittings among others participated in the event.

WETEX is an effective avenue for key players in the fields of water, electricity, oil, gas, and the environment. Not only does it allow sharing of knowledge and new practices, it also allows participants and exhibitors alike to network with government, business leaders, investors, and the academe / scientific community. It is also Dubai’s avenue to showcase its role in global efforts towards sustainable development.

At the sidelines of the exhibition, DEWA also inaugurated a new smart headquarters that will consume zero energy. Construction of the Al Sheraa Building (The Sail) is expected to be completed by 2019, with the building able to generate power by itself using renewable energy. DEWA signed an MOU with Dutch-based Philips Lighting as part of the Dubai Government’s efforts to spur innovation and green development in Dubai.

In his report, Consul General said the exhibit bodes well for the Philippines’ efforts on energy conservation, renewable sources of energy, water conservation, and the environment as it provides us current innovations on these fields and how these could be utilized in Philippine setting for the benefit of our communities.
