11 October 2016 – Philippine Deputy Permanent Delegate Jesus Enrique Garcia II delivered a statement on behalf of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ASEAN-UNESCO) Committee (AUC) at the 200th Session of the UNESCO Executive Board.

Philippine Deputy Permanent Delegate Garcia, in his statement, stressed that ASEAN places utmost priority in promoting people-centered sustainable development and views UNESCO as an important partner in fulfilling the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

As ASEAN celebrates its 50th Anniversary under the chairmanship of the Philippines in 2017, Mr. Garcia conveyed the commitment of the ten member countries to work for an ASEAN that enhances regional peace, stability, and prosperity by strengthening ASEAN solidarity and cooperation with key stakeholders, such as UNESCO.

The Philippines is chair of the AUC until December 2016. END
