11 October 2016 – The Philippine Embassy in Rome as the current Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) hosted and organized the 1st ASEAN Family Day of the Committee at Agriturismo Il Castoro, Rome, Italy on October 08.
More than 180 individuals from ASEAN Member States with Embassies in Rome namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand and Viet Nam participated in the event.
In his welcome remarks, Philippine Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco, underscored that the ASEAN Family Day provides an opportunity for ASEAN Embassy personnel and their families to know each other and to promote camaraderie and goodwill. He added that the event is an occasion to learn more about each ASEAN country's culture and traditions, reinforcing ASEAN's sense of identity.
“People to people linkages and cultural exchanges in events such as this greatly contribute in our efforts to build a closer, tighter and stronger ASEAN community,” Ambassador Nolasco emphasized.
The participants competed in different friendly matches such as arms wrestling, tug of war, balloon popping, 3-leg relay, marble in a spoon relay and bottle and straw relay. The ASEAN members also brought and shared traditional dishes to showcase the rich cuisine of the region.
The Philippine Embassy in Rome chairs the Committee from July to December 2016. END
