14 October 2016 — Philippine Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz attended the 12th Anniversary of the Philippine Disaster Relief Organization (PeDRO) held at the Knott’s Berry Farm Hotel on October 08.

PeDRO is a 501(c)(3) non-profit charitable organization,founded in 2004 with a simple mission to extend relief to victims of natural disasters and to mobilize resources of the community towards these objectives, focusing on community-based efforts including education, awareness and food air.

In his remarks, the Consul General commended the dynamic leadership of PeDRO’s President Myrna Baculi and the dedicated and talented volunteers for their mission “to give help wherever help is needed.” The efforts of PeDRO were acknowledged including their assistance to victims of calamities in the Philippines since 2004, the year when Quezon province was hit by succeeding typhoons and tropical storms.  They raised USD 42,000 to help the people of Quezon Province. In 2014, they were one of the first organizations to donate to the victims of Typhoon Glenda. They also donated to the victims of the landslide in Leyte and Typhoon Reming and also provided relief goods and medicines, bringing them personally to Tacloban, after Typhoon Haiyan.

PeDRO Officers also called on the Consul General at the Consulate on October 11.The Consul General hopes that PeDRO will have the consistent support of the Filipino American community – the youth, the grassroots, the professionals – in carrying their mission. END
