17 October 2016 – Short film “Caretaker”, directed by Filipino filmmaker Seymour Barros Sanchez, landed at second place out of 45 entries in the Short Fiction category at the 6th CAM International Festival for Short Films in Cairo which ran from October 08 to 13.
The film festival is organized yearly by the Egyptian Arab Society for Culture, Media and Arts (CMA) to promote cinema as a means of combating ignorance, terrorism and poverty. This year’s edition featured 72 submissions from 35 countries in three categories: Short Fiction, Documentary, and Animation.
In Sanchez’ “Caretaker”, the title character, a newly hired custodian of a vacation house, discovers the gruesome aftermath of a fraternity’s initiation rites gone wrong.
The Philippine Embassy in Cairo accepted the award on behalf of the film. END.
