21 October 2013 - The Social Security System (SSS) kicked off their 12-day outreach mission to eight North American cities with a community briefing at the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles on Friday, October 11.
President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Emilio S. De Quiros, Jr., led the SSS delegation accompanied by Senior Vice President for International Operations Judy Frances A. See, Vice President Maria Lourdes N. Mendoza, and Foreign Representative Roberto Roldan of SSS Hong Kong.
During the briefing at the Consulate General’s Rizal Hall, SSS President De Quiros said that their visit to North America was their way of bringing their services closer to overseas Filipinos. He assured the audience that the SSS is continuously exploring ways to improve its operations, services and related systems. He also happily announced that the SSS has moved its service delivery from branch-based transactions to internet-based channels in order to give their clients the flexibility of transacting with the SSS within the comfort of their own homes.
SVP See encouraged the audience to enroll in their Flexi-Fund Program for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs). The program gives OFWs the opportunity to set aside a part of their earnings abroad and maximize the return on their contributions. Contributions can be made anytime provided the member has paid the maximum monthly contribution for the applicable period. Any amount paid in excess of the required contribution is posted to the member's Flexi-fund account and earns interest.
In her remarks, Consul General Maria Hellen Barber Dela Vega said that with the success of the SSS outreach program, she hopes that other service-oriented government owned and controlled corporations will also and reach out to the Filipino community in North America.
On-site services were also offered to SSS members and pensioners during the program. Foreign Representative Roldan was able to assist and process the claims of 105 clients.
