18 October 2016 — An Embassy mobile consular team comprised of Consul Angelo V. Amonoy and Consular Assistant Ferdinand U. Camacho flew to the city of Mexicali, the capital of the State of Baja California in Mexico to provide consular services to the approximately 100-member Filipino community in Mexicali from October 14 to 16.
The Embassy’s clientele included other Filipino nationals residing or working in the state’s large population centers of Tijuana and Ensenada.
The Embassy team conducted its services at the residence of Mr. Bernard Carpio, a long-time Mexicali resident who works at the local affiliate of U.S.-based Skyworks Solutions, Inc., a semiconductor company specializing in wireless communication technology. More than 30 Filipino engineers and technicians work at its Mexicali facilities, making the company the biggest income provider for majority of the Filipino expatriates and their families living in the city.
The firm’s senior Mexican personnel managers expressly acknowledged the invaluable contributions and quality performance of the company’s Filipino employees. According to the said company, they plan to hire more Filipino workers.
The Embassy team processed 37 passport renewal applications, one application each for Report of Birth and Report of Marriage, two solicitations for Special Power of Attorney, and three notarials; while three former Filipinos who reacquired Philippine citizenship under the Dual Citizenship Law took their oath of allegiance before Consul Amonoy.
The members of the Filipino community in Baja California State who availed themselves of the consular outreach greatly thanked the Embassy for sending a mobile team to provide Embassy services to its constituents in the area, thereby saving them the precious time and financial resources needed to undertake a visit to Mexico City.
They assured the Embassy team that they are generally enjoying good living and working conditions, and that they feel safer in their homes and jobsites as the crime situation in Baja California State has gradually improved. END
